Kate will continue to fight for issues her constituents care about in her second term.

Representative Segal has used her first term in Lansing to fight for the people of Calhoun County. It is no secret that the last two years have been incredibly difficult for families across the state. Kate has worked diligently in Lansing to bring about the change needed to get our state back on track. In order to improve the lives of Calhoun County citizens of all ages and backgrounds, Kate has already:

  • Fought for a balanced budget with no tax increases to prevent further strain on Michigan families and businesses.
  • Led the fight in Lansing and built a community coalition to save the Michigan Youth ChalleNGe Academy (MYCA), a program that offers at-risk youths a chance to reform themselves through discipline and service.
  • Drew together bipartisan support to pass her first bill, a targeted change in the tax code that enabled Duncan Aviation and the hundreds of jobs they offer to remain in Calhoun County,
  • As Vice Chair of the Health Policy Committee, crafted common-sense healthcare reform proposals to modernize our system, increase access to care, and improve the quality of care the people and families of Calhoun County receive.

A vote to re-elect Kate is a vote for:

  • The Michigan Youth ChalleNGe Academy (MYCA): While Kate and her team won the last fight to preserve this outstanding program, another tough budget year awaits us. It will take continued leadership in Lansing to ensure that the MYCA can move forward with its work offering the troubled youths of our community an opportunity to become productive citizens. The team Kate has built is ready and able to mobilize in the next budget fight to save the MYCA.
  • Saving jobs and encouraging growth in Calhoun County: Kate knows that the government does not create jobs. However, she believes we can create an environment that supports businesses and entrepreneurship through strong leadership and sound policy decisions. Kate’s first bill that was passed into law saved hundreds of jobs at Duncan Aviation by making a common-sense change to the tax code. Representative Segal will continue to seek out creative measures to save jobs and encourage new business in our community.
  • Doing More with Less in State Government: Tough times call for sacrifice. As a former county commissioner, legislative policy analyst, and now State Representative, Kate’s experiences in our community and in Lansing have shown her the importance of cutting frivolous programs while protecting the ones that provide efficient and valuable services. In Kate’s second term as your state representative, she will oppose cuts that threaten good programs and with them our state’s recovery.
  • Strong Schools and High Quality Education: Education is integral to our community’s recovery. In light of budget cuts, Kate will ensure the efficient allocation of education dollars. Kate knows that we will only have a strong Michigan when we provide our children with the education they need to thrive.
