Dear Friends,

Just a little under two years ago you helped me to become your State Representative. I am still profoundly moved that thousands of you placed your faith in me to serve as your voice and your representative in Lansing. I wake up every morning thinking about the challenges that still lie ahead, but having the ability to fight for you and for Calhoun County makes this the best job I could imagine. Thank you for putting me here! 

In my first term, I have had the privilege of traveling throughout Calhoun County, as I did during the campaign. To hear what my constituents are really saying, I have held coffee hours in communities throughout the district and my staff and I have knocked on more than 13,000 doors. In addition I have had the privilege of visiting students in their classrooms and held several townhall meetings to share information with you and hear your concerns.

My first bill signed into law changed the tax code to keep Duncan Aviation in Michigan and protect Calhoun County jobs. I have been the legislature’s most vocal supporter of the Michigan Youth ChalleNGe Academy and fought to keep the program running for another year! And during difficult budget negotiations, I stood up for our local communities, schools, and programs – voting against cuts to programs that were proven to be both cost-effective and successful.

The challenges facing Michigan’s economy continue to be the focus of the legislature’s agenda this year. We still have some amazingly difficult obstacles to overcome before we can get back on track, but I believe we can get there. We have to have the imagination to craft a new vision of what our state should be and the discipline to make that vision a reality. I know that the job ahead will be hard, but as many of you know, hard work is something I have never shied away from. Therefore, I am excited to announce my candidacy for a second term as your state representative.

I’m thankful to be in a position to play a role in helping to shape our state’s future, and find that I am again called to action to serve the people of my community. I’m also grateful for the support of my family and friends, because without them, I wouldn’t be able to play as active a role as I do.

Please remember, as long as I am in Lansing, my door is always open to you. I look forward to earning your vote again this year to keep fighting for you, your family, and Calhoun County.
